Access Granted by Grace
Scripture:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
— Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
Devotion:
Access is something we often take for granted—until it’s denied. Whether it’s a locked door, a restricted area, or a relationship that has been broken, we quickly realize how important access really is. Spiritually, Scripture makes it clear that sin has barred us from the presence of a holy God. “For all have sinned…”—that includes every one of us. No exceptions. No exemptions. Sin separates, and the wage it pays is death—eternal separation from God.
But the beauty of the Gospel is that where sin closed the door, grace opened it wide. Romans 6:23 reminds us that while sin earns a wage, God offers a gift. That gift is eternal life, and it comes “through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Jesus didn’t just make access possible—He is the access. Through His sacrifice on the cross and His victorious resurrection, the barrier of sin was removed.
We don’t gain access to God by merit, morality, or religious effort. We come by grace, through faith. The veil has been torn. The invitation has been extended. The door is open—not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
Today, you don’t have to stand at a distance. You don’t have to wonder if you’re welcome. In Christ, access has already been granted. Come boldly. Come humbly. Come gratefully.
Reflection Questions:
Have you personally received the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, or are you still trying to earn access to God?
How does knowing your access is based on grace—not performance—change the way you approach God daily?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that I have fallen short and could never reach You on my own. Thank You for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ my Lord. I praise You that through Him, I now have access to Your presence. Help me to live each day in the confidence of Your grace, drawing near with a humble and grateful heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
