When You Begin to Question God's Goodness

Scripture: Genesis 3:1
“Yea, hath God said...?”

Doubt is one of Satan's oldest strategies.

In the Garden of Eden, Satan did not begin by telling Eve, “There is no God.” Instead, he planted a question: “Hath God said?” His strategy was subtle. If he could cause Eve to question God's Word, eventually he could cause her to question God's goodness.

That same strategy is still being used today.

The enemy whispers, “If God really loved you, why did He allow this?”
“If God were really good, wouldn't He have answered your prayer?”
“If God were really with you, why would you be going through this?”

Notice what is happening. Your circumstances are being used to reinterpret God's character.

That is dangerous.

We must never allow a temporary circumstance to redefine an eternal God.

God's goodness is not determined by whether today was easy. God's faithfulness is not measured by whether everything happened according to our plans. God was good before the trial began, He is good while we are walking through it, and He will still be good when the trial is over.

There will be things God allows that we do not understand. Faith does not require us to understand everything God does. Faith requires us to trust who God is when we cannot understand what He is doing.

When doubt whispers, “Can God really be trusted?” look back at the cross. Calvary forever settles the question of whether God loves you.
Do not judge God's goodness by today's circumstances.

Judge today's circumstances in light of God's unchanging goodness.

Have I allowed something I am going through to make me question something I already know to be true about God?
