Change Begins with Surrender

Series Theme
Everyone wants to change something. We want to overcome bad habits, grow spiritually, restore relationships, and become the person God created us to be. Yet many discover that determination alone isn't enough. The good news of the gospel is that lasting transformation doesn't come from stronger willpower—it comes from surrendering to God's power. This series explores how Christ changes us from the inside out, enabling us to live the life He has called us to live.
Change Begins with Surrender
Scripture
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..." — Romans 12:2
Most people begin the journey of change by trying harder. We make promises, set goals, and resolve to do better. Yet after weeks—or sometimes days—we find ourselves slipping back into old habits. The frustration isn't simply that we failed; it's that we realize our own strength isn't enough.
God never intended lasting change to come through human determination alone.
The Christian life isn't about self-improvement—it's about spiritual transformation. The word "transformed" in Romans 12:2 describes an inward change that affects everything outwardly. God changes our thinking, our desires, and ultimately our actions.
Transformation begins when we stop relying on ourselves and begin depending on Him.
Before God changes what we do, He changes how we think. As our minds are renewed by Scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit, our hearts begin to desire what pleases Him instead of what satisfies the flesh.
Real change is not about becoming a better version of yourself.
It is about becoming more like Christ.
Today, don't simply ask God to help you try harder. Ask Him to change your heart. When the heart changes, the life follows.
The greatest breakthroughs often begin with the simplest prayer:
"Lord, I cannot change myself. Change me."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that I often rely on my own strength instead of Yours. Renew my mind through Your Word and transform my heart into the likeness of Christ. Help me surrender every area of my life to You. Amen.
Reflection Questions
Am I relying more on willpower or God's power to change?
What area of my life do I need to fully surrender to the Lord today?
