When You Need Proof Before You Believe
Scripture: John 20:27
“Be not faithless, but believing.”
Thomas is remembered by many Christians for one thing: doubting.
When the other disciples told Thomas that Jesus had risen, Thomas responded that unless he personally saw the wounds of Christ, he would not believe.
Thomas wanted proof.
Sometimes we do too.
“God, if You will do this, then I will know You are with me.”
“God, give me a sign.”
“God, change this circumstance and then I will trust You.”
Without realizing it, we can begin making our faith conditional upon God proving Himself according to our requirements.
Jesus graciously met Thomas in his doubt. He showed him His hands and invited Thomas to believe.
But Jesus also said something important: “blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:29).
There comes a point when faith must stand upon God's Word rather than constantly demanding another sign.
Think about everything God has already given us.
We have His Word.
We have the testimony of Christ.
We have the resurrection.
We have His promises.
We have His past faithfulness.
How many times has God already carried you through something you thought you could never survive?
Sometimes when doubt demands new evidence, we need to remember the evidence God has already provided.
Do not make God continually prove His faithfulness before you will trust Him.
Remember what He has done.
Remember what He has promised.
Remember who He is.
Then choose to believe—even before you see what happens next.
Reflection Question:
Am I demanding that God prove Himself again when He has already given me countless reasons to trust Him?
Daily Takeaway:
Faith does not need to see tomorrow when it knows the One who already holds tomorrow.
