Stand Still and See
Text: Exodus 14:13
“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord…”
Few things create more stress than feeling trapped. The Israelites had the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh’s army behind them. Panic set in quickly. Stress will always shout, “Do something now!” But God gave a surprising command—stand still.
Standing still is not weakness—it is faith. It is choosing not to panic when pressure rises. It is refusing to react in fear. Often, we exhaust ourselves trying to fix what only God can handle.
When you are overwhelmed, your greatest strength may be your stillness. God fights battles that you cannot win on your own. Stress decreases when we stop striving and start trusting.
You may not see a way out right now—but neither did Israel. And yet, God made a way where there was no way.
Reflection Questions:
Where do you feel trapped or pressured to act quickly?
What would it look like for you to “stand still” instead of striving?
Prayer:
Father, help me to be still when fear rises. Teach me to trust Your power instead of reacting in panic. Fight the battles I cannot fight, and give me peace in the waiting. Amen.
