Day 12 – Loving When It Costs

Scripture: Luke 10:33–34.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Love often requires a personal sacrifice that can manifest in various forms. The Good Samaritan serves as a profound example of this, demonstrating love that comes at the cost of time, resources, and personal comfort. Biblical love frequently interrupts our convenience and compels us to respond with compassion to those in need. It requires us to step outside our comfort zones and engage with the suffering of others, reflecting the very essence of Christ's love. This type of love is not merely an emotion; it is an active choice that challenges us to prioritize others above ourselves.
Sacrificial love reveals the true condition of our hearts. When love requires something from us, it mirrors Christ’s ultimate sacrifice made for humanity. It is through such acts of love that God honors our choices to favor compassion over convenience. This powerful love not only strengthens our character but also deepens our relationships, drawing us closer to the heart of God. When we choose to love sacrificially, we demonstrate our commitment to the values of His kingdom.

Reflection Questions
  1.  What has love cost me recently?
  2.  Do I avoid love when it requires sacrifice?
  3.  Where might God be calling me to love sacrificially?

Prayer
Lord, help me to love even when it costs me. Teach me to value people over convenience and to prioritize compassion over comfort. Shape my heart to reflect Yours in all I do. Amen.
