Jesus Is Lord Over the Storm

Scripture:
"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still." — Mark 4:39

The disciples were terrified.

A violent storm had overtaken their boat, waves were filling the vessel, and Jesus was asleep.

They woke Him with a desperate question:
"Master, carest thou not that we perish?"

Jesus arose, rebuked the wind, and spoke three powerful words:
"Peace, be still."

Immediately, the wind ceased.

Imagine standing in that boat.

One moment there is chaos. The next moment there is complete calm.

But the greatest revelation wasn't simply that the storm stopped.

It was who stopped it.

The disciples asked:
"What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" — Mark 4:41

That's the heart of the miracle.

Jesus wasn't simply demonstrating that He could solve their problem. He was revealing His divine authority.

Sometimes we become so focused on asking Jesus to calm our storm that we overlook the greater blessing:
Jesus is in the boat.

God may miraculously change your circumstances. At other times, He may give you grace to endure them.

Our faith cannot depend upon God always doing what we want.

Our faith rests in who He is.
The miracle you want may be the removal of the storm.

But the deeper work God desires may be teaching you to trust Christ while the waves are still crashing.

Don't measure God's presence by the absence of storms.

Jesus was with the disciples before, during, and after the storm.

And He is with His people today.

Are you trusting Jesus only to change your circumstances, or are you trusting Him because of who He is?
