YOUR PAST IS NOT YOUR IDENTITY

Scripture: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17

One of the enemy's favorite strategies is reminding us who we used to be.

He loves replaying old failures.

"Remember what you did?"

"Remember how badly you failed?"

"Remember the person you used to be?"

But when God looks at someone who has been redeemed through Christ, He doesn't define that person by the old life.

He sees someone made new.

Paul understood this better than most. Before becoming one of Christianity's greatest missionaries, Paul persecuted Christians. If anyone had a past capable of haunting him, Paul did.

Yet grace gave Paul a new identity.

The persecutor became the preacher.

The enemy of the church became an apostle of Christ.

His past was part of his testimony, but it was no longer his identity.

The same is true for you.

Your worst moment doesn't get to write the final chapter of your life.

Maybe you've made decisions you deeply regret. Maybe you've hurt people. Maybe you've wasted opportunities. Maybe there are chapters of your story you wish could be erased.

Christ doesn't merely improve the old you.

He makes you new.

That means you don't have to spend the rest of your life introducing yourself by yesterday's failures.

Grace has given you a new name and a new future.

Your past may explain where you've been.

It doesn't determine where God can take you.

Refuse to let yesterday become today's identity. When an old failure comes to mind, remind yourself: "That is part of my past, but it does not define who I am in Christ." Then thank God for the new life His grace has given you.
