Trusting God When You Cannot Understand God

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Eventually every believer reaches places where there are no easy explanations.
Why did God allow this?
Why did that relationship end?
Why did the door close?
Why did the prayer seem unanswered?
Why did someone suffer?
Why did God's plan take this direction?

Sometimes answers come later.
Sometimes they do not come in this life.

That is why Proverbs does not say, “Understand the LORD with all thine heart.”
It says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart.”

There is a tremendous difference.

If understanding were required before trusting, our faith would always be limited to what our minds could comprehend.

But God is infinitely greater than our understanding.

Imagine a small child holding a parent's hand while walking through an unfamiliar place. The child does not know the destination. The child does not understand every turn. The child may not know why the parent chose that particular road.
But the child knows the hand being held.

That is faith.

You may not understand the road God has chosen for you.
You may not understand the delay.
You may not understand the disappointment.
You may not understand this chapter of your story.

But you can know the One holding your hand.

Doubt says, “I cannot understand this, therefore I cannot trust God.”

Faith says, “I cannot understand this, but I know God, therefore I will trust Him.”

You do not have to know everything God is doing to know that God is trustworthy.

Keep walking.
Keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep holding onto His Word.

One day faith will become sight, and what seems confusing now will be viewed from the perspective of eternity.

Until then, trust the heart of God when you cannot trace the hand of God.

Reflection Question:
What am I trying to understand that God may simply be asking me to trust Him with?

Daily Takeaway:
You do not have to understand God's plan to trust God's heart.
