Christian in Name or Follower by Life?

Scripture: Luke 9:23 — “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

There is a difference between saying, “I am a Christian,” and saying, “I am following Jesus.”

The word Christian can become an identity we inherit from our family, culture, community, or upbringing. We may attend church, believe in God, own a Bible, and agree with Christian values. But Jesus called people to something much deeper.

He said, “Follow me.”

Following Jesus involves surrender. It means His direction becomes more important than our desires. His Word becomes the authority for our decisions. His priorities begin shaping our priorities.

Jesus did not say to take up our cross occasionally. He said to take it up daily.

Every morning presents another opportunity to say, “Jesus, today I belong to You.”

Christianity was never intended merely to be something written beside our name on a survey. It is supposed to be visible in the way we live.
Think About It: If someone watched the way you lived this week without hearing you say you were a Christian, would they see evidence that you are following Jesus?

Prayer: Lord, help me to be more than a Christian in name. Teach me to deny myself, take up my cross, and genuinely follow You every day. Amen.
