The Foundation of Faithfulness!
Devotion by Pastor Shane - September 15, 2026

Scripture:
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge.” – 2 Peter 1:5
Devotional Thought:
Faith is the starting point of the Christian life, but it is never meant to remain alone. Peter reminds us that faith must be nurtured, strengthened, and expanded. A building cannot stand without a foundation, and faithfulness cannot flourish without diligence. The first block Peter mentions is virtue—moral excellence, upright living, and purity of heart. Faith without character is fragile, but faith joined with virtue becomes strong and enduring.
Notice the phrase “giving all diligence.” Faithfulness requires effort. It does not grow by accident. A faithful believer daily commits to prayer, study of God’s Word, and obedience. As virtue is added, knowledge follows—a deeper understanding of God’s truth, His ways, and His will. Faithfulness begins with a heart resolved to grow.
Life Applications:
- Set aside intentional time each day to build your faith through Scripture and prayer.
- Guard your character in small choices, remembering that faithfulness is built daily.
- Ask God to give you a hunger for knowledge that strengthens virtue and guides decisions.
Reflection Questions:
- Am I diligently adding virtue and knowledge to my faith, or am I spiritually stagnant?
- Where in my life do I need to practice greater moral excellence as a testimony of my faith?
Faith is the foundation, but diligence builds faithfulness.
Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for the gift of faith. Please help me to build upon it with virtue and knowledge diligently. Shape my character to reflect Your holiness, and strengthen me to live faithfully each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
