The Discipline of Stillness
Scripture: Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
"Be still, and know that I am God..."
Devotion
In a world filled with noise, motion, and distraction, God calls His people to a discipline that feels unnatural—stillness.
“Be still” does not simply mean inactivity; it means to cease striving, to release control, and to rest in the sovereignty of God. It is the discipline of trusting God without constantly trying to fix everything ourselves.
Stillness allows us to know God—not just intellectually, but intimately. When we quiet our hearts, we become more aware of His presence, His power, and His promises.
Many believers struggle here because stillness requires surrender. It forces us to let go of worry, timelines, and control. Yet in that surrender, we discover strength.
The disciplined Christian learns when to move—and when to be still.
Reflection Questions
What areas of my life am I struggling to surrender to God?
Do I make intentional time to be still before the Lord?
Prayer
Father,
Teach me to be still. Quiet my restless heart and help me to trust in Your sovereignty. In the silence, reveal more of Yourself to me. Help me to surrender control and rest in Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
