The Discipline of Service

Scripture: Mark 10:45
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve."

Devotional:
In a world focused on status and recognition, Jesus modeled a radically different way of living. He came not to be served but to serve.

Service is a spiritual discipline because it trains our hearts to reflect Christ's humility. It shifts our focus from our own needs to the needs of others.

Jesus washed His disciples' feet, performed countless acts of compassion, and ultimately gave His life on the cross. His example teaches us that greatness in God's kingdom is measured by service.

Serving others often requires sacrifice. It costs time, energy, and convenience. Yet God uses these moments to shape our character and expand our love.

The beauty of service is that many of its greatest acts go unnoticed by the world. A kind word, a helping hand, a visit to someone who is lonely, or a quiet act of generosity may never receive public recognition, but God sees it all.

Service also protects us from selfishness. As we invest in others, our hearts become more aligned with Christ's mission.

Look for opportunities today to serve someone without expecting anything in return. In doing so, you reflect the heart of Jesus.

Reflection Questions
Who in your life needs encouragement or practical help?
How does serving others help you grow spiritually?

Prayer
Lord, give me a servant's heart. Help me follow the example of Jesus and love others through humble acts of service. Amen.
