Scripture:

"For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up." – Ecclesiastes 4:10

Devotion:

Life was never meant to be lived in isolation. God created us for relationship—with Him and with one another. Solomon reminds us in this verse that companionship is not simply a blessing in good times, but a necessity in times of trouble.

The truth is, everyone falls. We trip over temptation, stumble under the weight of trials, or collapse from sheer exhaustion. In those moments, the presence of a godly friend, spouse, or fellow believer can make all the difference. Their hand extended in compassion can lift us back to our feet when we feel too weak to rise on our own.

The warning is sobering: "woe to him that is alone when he falleth." Those who isolate themselves risk being crushed by their burdens. Without someone to encourage, correct, and restore, the path back to strength becomes longer and lonelier.

This is why Christian fellowship is so vital. God often works through His people to bring comfort, counsel, and strength to others. Just as Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands when he grew weary, we are called to hold up one another in prayer, support, and love.

Perhaps today you are the one who has fallen—don't be too proud to reach for a helping hand. Or maybe you know someone lying under the weight of life's pressures—don't hesitate to be that hand for them. In lifting others, we reflect the love of Christ, who Himself stooped down to lift us from the pit of sin and set our feet on the solid rock.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the people You place in my life to strengthen and encourage me. Make me a faithful friend who is there to support the fallen, just as You have supported me. Keep me from a proud attitude of never accepting help; rather, fill me with a heart full of compassion to offer help. Amen.
