Not By Might, Nor By Power!

Scripture:

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." – Zechariah 4:6

Devotion:

The task of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem after the exile, which Zerubbabel led, surely seemed impossible. Opposition was sharp, resources were limited, and there were not enough workers to accomplish all the tasks.

Humanly speaking, there was no way forward. Yet in the middle of his discouragement, the Lord sent this powerful reminder: the success of the mission did not depend on human strength, political influence, or military force. The work would be accomplished "by my Spirit," saith the LORD of hosts.

This truth is just as relevant today. Too often, we rely on our abilities, our plans, and our connections to get things done. While God calls us to be diligent and faithful, He makes it clear that spiritual victory cannot be achieved through human effort alone. Without His Spirit, our work is powerless; with His Spirit, nothing is impossible.

The Spirit of God embodies courage when we are afraid; wisdom when we are in doubt; transition when we grow weary. He opens doors that no man is capable of shutting; breaks chains that no human hand can break; and alters the heart that no argument can change.

Whatever challenge you face today—whether it is rebuilding a broken relationship, persevering in ministry, or overcoming a personal struggle—remember: victory is not secured by your might or your power, but by the Spirit of the living God. Surrender the task into His hands and walk forward in faith, trusting Him to accomplish what you cannot.

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for reminding me that my strength is not sufficient to do much, but that the Spirit is more than enough. Help me to depend on You for every battle and every burden. Pour Your Spirit afresh over me, that through my labor, my speech, and my way of life, Your name may be exalted. In Jesus' name, Amen.
