Rejoice Not Over Me!
Devotion by Pastor Shane - August 19, 2025
Scripture:
"Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me." – Micah 7:8
Devotion:
Like an echo of confidence, the prophet Micah had spoken. Swarmed by turmoil, accused by foes, his feet sinking fast into the reality of judgment, he stilled would not allow the enemy the privilege of uttering the last word. His message was defiant—not in his strength, but in the steadfast hope he had in the Lord.
Micah knew that falling was inevitable in life, but staying down was optional. He could look his adversary in the eye and say, "Rejoice not against me... when I fall, I shall arise." Why? Because his hope did not rest on his perfection, but on the power and mercy of his God.
Even in seasons of darkness—when the path ahead seems uncertain, when prayers seem unanswered, and when hope seems dim—Micah declared that "the LORD shall be a light unto me." God's light does not just expose the darkness; it guides, comforts, and restores.
As believers, we too can speak with this confidence. Our enemy may gloat when we stumble, whispering lies that we are finished. But our response should echo Micah's: "Don't celebrate too soon. My God is not done with me yet!" We rise not because we are strong, but because He is faithful.
If you are in a dark valley today, remember this truth: the same God who has been your light in the past will be your light again. Darkness cannot last forever when the Lord is your guide.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the light through the darkest places. Allow me to remember Your power to lift me when I fall. And even while I sit in darkness with hope in my heart because of Your presence, grant me courage to stand again. Give me faith to believe in You when my dawn takes time. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
