DAY 6 — Mary: A Model of Surrender
Scripture:
“Be it unto me according to thy word.” — Luke 1:38 (KJV)
Mary was a young woman with simple aspirations, yet God interrupted her ordinary life with an extraordinary calling. Her response demonstrates a heart fully surrendered to God’s will. Although she did not grasp every detail of what was about to unfold, and despite her uncertainty about how others would react, she chose to trust God enough to say yes to His plan for her life. This decision reflects profound faith.
Surrender does not necessitate complete understanding; it requires full obedience. Christmas invites us to echo Mary’s words: “Lord, be it unto me according to Thy Word.” God continues to use ordinary people who are willing to yield to His divine will, showing that our willingness can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
When God speaks, faith responds with a resounding yes, even in the face of uncertainty about the future. This kind of surrender opens the door for God to work in ways that far exceed our expectations. Mary’s example encourages us to step out in faith, trusting that God’s plans are always for our good.
Application Questions
1. What area of your life is God asking you to surrender?
2. How can Mary’s example strengthen your obedience?
Prayer
Father, give me a heart like Mary—willing, surrendered, and obedient. Help me trust Your plans more than my fears. Amen.
