DAY 7 — Joseph: Obedience in the Shadows
Scripture:
“…Joseph…did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him…” — Matthew 1:24 (KJV)
Joseph remains a quiet yet pivotal figure in the Christmas story, and his obedience speaks volumes about his character. When God redirected his plans, Joseph did not argue—he simply obeyed. Upon receiving the command to take Mary as his wife and later to flee into Egypt, Joseph responded with promptness and faithfulness. His actions exemplify the essence of trust in God’s guidance.
Joseph’s story reminds us that unseen acts of obedience are still honored by God. Not every act of faith is visible or public; some of the most significant steps of obedience occur in the shadows, where only God is aware of our faithfulness. This truth encourages us to remain steadfast in our commitments to God, regardless of whether others recognize our efforts.
God continues to call His people to trust Him, even when others may not understand their choices. While obedience may come at a cost, it is invariably rewarded with God’s presence and provision. Joseph’s willingness to follow God’s leading serves as an inspiring example for us to emulate.
Application Questions
1. Are you obeying God in the “small” or unseen areas of life?
2. What step of faith is God asking you to take?
Prayer
Lord, help me walk in quiet obedience like Joseph. Even when it’s difficult or unnoticed, strengthen my resolve to follow Your voice. Amen.
