Held by Nail-Scarred Hands

Scripture:
“Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands.” — John 20:27

After the resurrection of Christ, something remarkable remained—His scars. When Jesus appeared to His disciples, the marks of the nails were still visible in His hands. The resurrection did not erase the evidence of suffering; instead, it revealed the triumph over it. Those scars were no longer symbols of defeat but testimonies of victory, love, and redemption.

When Jesus invited Thomas to touch His wounds, He was showing that the very marks of His suffering had become proof of His power. The nails that once pierced His hands had accomplished the greatest work of grace the world has ever known. What once looked like tragedy had become the foundation of our salvation.

This truth reminds us that God does not always remove the scars from our lives. There are experiences, trials, heartbreaks, and seasons of suffering that leave their marks upon us. Yet the Lord, in His mercy, can redeem every one of them. The pain you once endured can become a testimony of God's sustaining grace. The wounds that once hurt deeply can become reminders of His faithfulness.

God has a way of transforming what once wounded us into something that strengthens us and encourages others. Just as Christ’s scars became evidence of redemption, our own scars can become witnesses to the goodness of God. The trial you survived may become the very message someone else needs to hear to find hope.

Sometimes we wish God would erase the difficult chapters of our story. But often He chooses instead to redeem them. He takes what the enemy meant for harm and uses it for His glory. What once seemed like a place of defeat becomes a place where grace is displayed.

And perhaps the greatest comfort is this: the same nail-scarred hands that bear the marks of sacrifice are the hands that now hold us. The Savior who suffered understands our pain. The One who bore the scars now carries our burdens. We are not held by distant hands but by hands that know suffering, sacrifice, and victory.

When you remember the hardships you have faced, do not only see the pain—look also for the grace. Look for the ways God carried you through. Look for the strength He gave when you thought you could not go on. Your scars do not define you; they testify to the faithfulness of the One who brought you through.

Because of Christ, scars are never the end of the story. In His hands, they become reminders that redemption is always possible.

Reflection Questions:
What scars in your life has God already begun to redeem?
How has the Lord used a painful season to strengthen your faith?
Can you see evidence of His grace in places that once held deep hurt?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the nail-scarred hands that secured my salvation and now hold my life. Help me to trust that even the painful chapters of my story can be redeemed by Your grace. Use my experiences, my trials, and even my scars to point others to Your goodness and glory. Amen.
