FROM STRUGGLER TO SURVIVOR
Scripture:
"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." — Romans 8:37
How do you describe yourself when life gets difficult?
"I'm struggling."
Sometimes that's completely true. Christianity doesn't require us to pretend everything is fine when it isn't.
There will be battles.
There will be disappointments.
There will be seasons when simply getting through another day feels like a victory.
But there's an important difference between experiencing a struggle and allowing that struggle to define your identity.
Paul didn't say believers would never experience hardship. In Romans 8, he mentions tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and sword.
Then he makes an incredible declaration:
"We are more than conquerors."
Notice that victory isn't based upon our strength.
We are conquerors "through him that loved us."
Maybe you've been looking at yourself as someone barely hanging on.
God sees someone His grace has been holding all along.
Look back over your life.
Think about some things you thought would destroy you.
Yet you're still here.
You survived days you weren't sure you could survive. You walked through valleys you thought would never end. You cried tears nobody else saw.
And somehow, God's grace carried you.
Don't build your identity around the battle.
Build it around the One who walks with you through it.
You're not merely someone who struggles.
Through Christ, you're an overcomer.
APPLICATION TAKEAWAY
Change the language you use about your battles. Instead of saying, "This struggle defines me," declare, "This is something I'm walking through, but Christ determines who I am." Your battle is temporary; your identity in Christ is eternal.
