Following Jesus When It Costs Something

Scripture: Luke 14:33 — “Whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”

Following Jesus sounds wonderful until following Him requires us to give something up.

Sometimes obedience costs comfort.

Sometimes it costs popularity.

Sometimes it requires ending a sinful habit, changing a relationship, admitting we were wrong, forgiving someone who hurt us, or standing for biblical truth when others disagree.

Jesus never hid the cost of discipleship.

He repeatedly told people to consider what following Him would require. He wasn't looking for casual admirers. He was calling committed disciples.

The question becomes: Is Jesus worth the cost?

When we understand who He is and what He has done for us, the answer becomes clear.

Whatever following Jesus costs us in this temporary world cannot compare with what we gain in Him.

Think About It: What would obedience to Jesus cost you right now? Is there something you know He wants you to surrender?

Prayer: Jesus, give me courage to follow You even when obedience is difficult. Help me value You more than comfort, approval, possessions, or anything else this world offers. Amen.
