Compassion That Moves Us
Scripture: Matthew 9:36
"When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them..."
Jesus never viewed people as interruptions. He saw hurting individuals in need of hope. His compassion wasn't merely an emotion—it became action. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, comforted the brokenhearted, and welcomed those others rejected.
Compassion begins when we allow ourselves to see people the way Christ sees them. In our hurried culture, it's easy to overlook someone's pain because we're consumed with our own schedules. Yet Jesus continually paused to notice individuals.
God often uses the emotions of empathy and compassion to direct us toward ministry. The burden you feel for someone may be the Holy Spirit inviting you to become part of His answer to their prayers.
Compassion changes our perspective. Instead of asking, "Why is this person difficult?" we begin asking, "What pain might they be carrying?"
Ask God today to soften your heart and help you notice the needs around you.
Prayer
Father, give me the compassionate heart of Jesus. Help me notice hurting people and respond with kindness, generosity, and love. Amen.
Reflection Question
Who has God placed in your life today that needs the compassion of Christ through you?
