Ready for Eternity

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” — Hebrews 9:27

Eternity is comforting for the believer, but it is also a serious reality.

Every person will eventually stand before God.

The question is not whether eternity exists. The question is: Where will you spend it?

Scripture tells us plainly:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” — Romans 3:23

None of us can reach heaven through goodness, religion, church attendance, generosity, or morality. Sin separates us from God, and we cannot rescue ourselves.

But that is why Jesus came.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23

Notice the word gift.

Eternal life isn't earned. It is received through Jesus Christ.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Through repentance and faith in Christ, sinners can be forgiven and receive eternal life.

Jesus said:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” — John 6:47

Not might have.

Not hopefully will have.

Hath everlasting life.

And once we know Christ, eternity should create urgency in us. There are people around us every day who need the Gospel. Family members, neighbors, coworkers, friends, and strangers are eternal souls.

If eternity is real—and God's Word declares that it is—then sharing Jesus is one of the most loving things we can ever do.

Make sure you are ready for eternity by placing your faith in Jesus Christ—and then live with enough eternal urgency to help someone else become ready too.
