Adding to Your Faith
Scripture: 2 Peter 1:5-11
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Devotional:
Faith is the foundation of the Christian life, but God never intended for it to remain stagnant. Peter challenges believers to diligently add virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
Spiritual growth does not happen accidentally. Just as a garden requires cultivation, our faith requires intentional attention. We must spend time in God's Word, engage in prayer, and practice obedience.
Notice the progression Peter describes. Each quality builds upon the previous one. The result is a fruitful and effective Christian life that reflects Christ to the world.
Many believers desire maturity but neglect the disciplines that produce it. Growth requires effort, not to earn salvation, but because salvation transforms us.
Every day presents opportunities to grow. Every challenge can deepen perseverance. Every interaction can increase love.
Reflection:
Which of Peter's qualities do you need to develop most in your life right now?
Prayer:
Father, help me grow in faith and maturity. Develop Christlike character within me and make my life fruitful for Your glory. Amen.
