The Word That Sustains!
Devotion by Pastor Shane - November 14, 2025

Series: "Strength in the Stress: Lessons from the Wilderness"
Scripture:
Deuteronomy 8:2–3 — "And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna… that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live."
Devotion:
"Man doth not live by bread only…" The wilderness experience taught Israel a profound lesson: true stress relief comes not from external sources, but from eternal truths. While bread nourishes the physical body, only God's Word can genuinely strengthen the spirit and provide lasting peace.
When life feels unbearably heavy, allow Scripture to resonate louder than the stress you are experiencing. Before you voice your complaints, open your Bible and let its truths wash over you. The promises found within are like spiritual oxygen—breathe them in deeply to sustain your soul.
Jesus Himself quoted this very verse during His own wilderness temptation, as recorded in Matthew 4:4. If God's Word was a source of strength for Him, it can undoubtedly sustain you in your own trials and tribulations. Embrace the wisdom of Scripture as your guiding light through the darkest valleys.
Prayer:
"Lord, let Your Word steady my heart in stress. Remind me that real life is found not in relief, but in relationship with You."
