The Stability of Faithfulness
Scripture:
“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.” – 2 Peter 1:10
Devotional Thought:
Faithfulness brings stability. Peter teaches that when we practice diligence in building Christian virtues, we gain assurance and steadfastness. Faithful faith does not crumble under trials—it stands firm.
To “make your calling and election sure” means to live in such a way that your faith is visibly confirmed. A wavering life brings doubt, but a faithful life gives assurance and confidence in Christ. God promises that if we practice these things, “ye shall never fall.” This does not mean we will never stumble, but that we will not ultimately fall away. Faithfulness keeps us standing.
Life Applications:
- Be diligent in spiritual disciplines (prayer, Word, worship) to strengthen your faith.
- Write down one area where you tend to stumble and pray specifically for God’s help.
- Encourage another believer to remain steadfast in their walk.
Reflection:
- How does my daily walk give evidence of my calling in Christ?
- Am I standing firm in faith, or do trials and temptations easily shake me?
Faithfulness keeps you stable, secure, and standing in Christ.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to walk with diligence and stability. Confirm my faith through my daily obedience, and keep me from stumbling into sin. Strengthen me to live with assurance in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
