The Resilience of Faith!
Devotion by Pastor Shane - August 14, 2025
Scripture Reading:
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” — 2 Corinthians 4:8–10
Devotion:
Resilience is not the absence of hardship—it is the ability to rise again after hardship. Paul’s testimony here is a picture of faith that refuses to quit. Every phrase in these verses pairs an earthly reality with a heavenly response, showing that no attack from the enemy is greater than the power of God at work in us.
Troubled… yet not distressed. The pressure is real, but the peace of God guards our hearts.
Perplexed… but not in despair. We may not have the answers, but we have the Answerer.
Persecuted… but not forsaken. God’s presence never leaves us, even when people do. Cast down… but not destroyed. We may be knocked to the ground, but in Christ, we are never knocked out.
This resilience comes from the life of Jesus being “made manifest” in us. His victory over sin and death becomes our strength to endure, our reason to hope, and our courage to stand. The enemy can bruise us, but he cannot break us; he can hinder us, but he cannot halt the work of God in us.
Living faith that weathers storms, endures tribulations, and moves forward is a real testimony to the world. It tells the world that the God who raised Jesus is also the God who raises us over and over again.
Prayer:
Father, Thank You for the strength to rise when life knocks me down. Keep my heart anchored in Your promises and my faith steady in the storm. Help me to live with a resilience that points others to the hope found in Christ alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
