The Promise of His Coming

The Promise of His Coming
Scripture:
“This same Jesus… shall so come.” — Acts 1:11
Devotion: The Certainty of His Coming
When the disciples stood gazing into the heavens, their hearts were likely filled with wonder, confusion, and even sorrow as Jesus ascended. But heaven interrupted their staring with a promise: “This same Jesus… shall so come.”
Not another Savior. Not a different spirit. Not a symbolic return. This same Jesus—the One who was born in Bethlehem, who walked on water, who wept at Lazarus’ tomb, who died on Calvary, and who rose in victory—is coming again.
His return is not a possibility—it is a promise.
1. The Person in the Promise
“This same Jesus…”
The promise centers on a Person, not just an event. The One who saved you is the One who is coming for you.
The Suffering Savior will return as the Sovereign King
The Rejected Redeemer will return as the Righteous Ruler
The Lamb will return as the Lion
This is deeply personal. The One you pray to, walk with, and trust today is the One you will one day see face to face.
2. The Pattern of His Coming
“…shall so come in like manner…”
Just as He ascended visibly, bodily, and gloriously, so shall He return. His coming will not be hidden—it will be undeniable.
It will be visible — every eye shall see Him
It will be victorious — He comes in power and glory
It will be sudden — at an hour you think not
The world may ignore Him now, but it will not ignore Him then.
3. The Power of His Coming
The promise of His return is not just doctrine—it is daily motivation.
His coming should shape:
Our priorities — live for what lasts
Our purity — walk in holiness
Our perseverance — endure with hope
When you remember He is coming, it changes how you live today.
Reflection Questions
Are you living expectantly?
Or have you settled into comfort, forgetting His return?
How should this promise shape today?
What would you change if you truly believed He could come at any moment?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for the promise that You are coming again. Help me to live with expectation, not distraction. Purify my heart, align my priorities, and strengthen my walk. May I be found faithful when You return. Prepare my heart for Your coming, and help me to live today in light of that glorious promise. Amen.
