Rest for the Weary

Day 5: Rest for the Weary
"All come unto me, and I will give you rest. Learn from me, and I will show you how to live. Because I am humble and meek in heart, you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy, and my load is light." Matthew 11:28-30
Some are not only discouraged but tired. We have been trying to live up to others' standards, doing things that are not our responsibility and carrying guilt that we don't need to carry. We may not know what it feels like to put that load down.
Jesus said, "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden." Not come when you're done getting your life together. Come, and "I will give you rest."
Then he told us to take his yoke. What is a yoke? It's a wooden frame placed over 2 oxen to pull something. Jesus isn't saying don't have purpose. He's saying Let me help you pull that load. When you are yoked with him, he will lead you and let you rest, which is why his yoke is easy, and his load is light.
When we try to live a life of righteousness, we are placing a heavy yoke on ourselves. But if we learn from the one that is "meek and lowly in heart," we are under an easy yoke.
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" Isaiah 40:31. Don't forget to wait on the Lord.
Life Application Take-Away:
Give Jesus your heavy yoke and take on his easy one. List 3 things that are weighing you down right now. Pray over each one and tell Jesus you want to learn from him and rest. Find time this week to truly rest from what you have been doing and spend that time with the Lord.
What have you been carrying that Jesus wants to help you with?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I have been laboring and am heavy laden. Please teach me how to take on your yoke and learn from you. Because you are meek and lowly in heart, I can find rest.
