Oh Give Thanks
Devotion by Pastor Shane - November 26, 2025

Psalm 107:1
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."
Devotional Thought
Psalm 107 opens with a powerful invitation to offer thanks—not because life is devoid of challenges, but because God is inherently good and His mercy is everlasting. Our gratitude should be rooted in the unchanging character of God rather than in the unpredictable conditions of life. His goodness remains steadfast, His mercy is unwavering, and His love is eternal.
Regardless of your current situation, you can always find something to be thankful for, because God remains constant even when life feels chaotic and unpredictable. The psalm continues to recount stories of individuals who were rescued from distress, healed from affliction, liberated from bondage, and sheltered during storms. Time and again, Scripture urges us to proclaim, "Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness." This recurring theme serves as a reminder that genuine thanksgiving emerges naturally when we reflect on who God is and what He has accomplished in our lives.
Application
• Take a moment to look back over this year and compile a list of specific instances where you have witnessed God's mercy in your life.
• Intentionally express gratitude for God's character—His goodness, faithfulness, and infinite mercy that sustain us daily.
• Personalize your thanksgiving: "Lord, I thank You because You have been good to me in _____." This practice fosters a deeper connection and appreciation for His blessings.
Prayer
Gracious Father, I thank You for Your goodness and for Your everlasting mercy. You have remained faithful during my moments of weakness and have shown me mercy when I have fallen short. Help me to live each day with a heart that is thankful and remembers Your lovingkindness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
