A Prayer From the Deep

Scripture: Jonah 2:1–10
“Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly.” — Jonah 2:1

Jonah had reached the bottom.

There was nowhere left to run, nowhere to hide, and nothing Jonah could do to rescue himself.

So Jonah prayed.

Isn’t it interesting how quickly our perspective changes when we reach a place where we realize we cannot fix everything ourselves?

From inside the great fish, Jonah remembered God. His prayer in Jonah 2 reveals a man who finally understood that his only hope was the Lord.

Jonah declared, “Salvation is of the LORD.”

That is one of the great truths of the entire book.

Jonah could not save himself from the sea. He could not command the fish to release him. He could not undo his previous decisions. But he could turn his heart toward God.

Maybe you have made decisions you regret. Perhaps you ignored God’s direction, wasted opportunities, or wandered farther than you ever intended.

Your story does not have to end there.

The belly of the fish looked like Jonah’s grave, but God turned it into a place of restoration. The place Jonah probably thought was the end became the place where God prepared him for a new beginning.

Never believe you have fallen so far that God cannot reach you.

You can pray from the deep.

You can call upon God from the darkness.

And you can discover that His grace reaches farther than your failure.

Today’s Truth:

Your lowest place can become the place where God begins restoring you.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that there is nowhere I can go beyond the reach of Your mercy. When I fail, draw me back to You. Help me remember that my hope is not in my ability to rescue myself, but in You. Amen.
