Looking to the Hills

Scripture: Psalm 121:1-2
The psalmist declared,
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord.”

David understood this truth long before he faced Goliath. His confidence did not come from weapons or experience—it came from the Lord.
Where we look during difficulty matters greatly. When we focus only on problems, discouragement grows. But when we lift our eyes toward God, hope rises within our hearts.

The hills in Scripture often symbolized strength, refuge, and worship. Yet the psalmist clarified that help does not ultimately come from the hills themselves. Help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.

Human strength eventually fails. Friends may disappoint us. Resources may run out. But God remains faithful forever.

Sometimes believers become spiritually exhausted because they spend more time looking at the giant than looking at God. Perspective changes everything. The giant may be large, but God is infinite.

God is not distant from your struggle today. He sees your tears, hears your prayers, and understands every burden you carry. The Lord who created the universe is fully capable of sustaining you through every trial.

Faith grows when we intentionally fix our attention on God’s character instead of our circumstances.

Lift your eyes today. Your help is not found in yourself—it is found in the Lord.

Reflection Questions
What are you focusing on most right now—your problems or God’s promises?
How can you intentionally keep your eyes on the Lord this week?

Prayer
Father, help me lift my eyes above my circumstances and focus on You. Remind me that my help comes from the Lord alone. Strengthen my faith and give me peace in every trial. In Jesus’ name, amen.
