Keeping Oil in Your Lamp
Scripture:
“They that were ready went in with him to the marriage.” — Matthew 25:10
Jesus told the parable of the ten virgins to emphasize the importance of spiritual readiness. Five were wise because they kept oil in their lamps. Five were foolish because they were unprepared when the bridegroom arrived.
The oil represents spiritual life, intimacy with God, and continual dependence on the Holy Spirit. The foolish virgins had lamps, but no oil. They had appearance without preparation. They looked ready, but they were spiritually empty.
Many people today know church language but lack a genuine walk with God. They know how to speak about faith, but they do not spend time with Jesus. They may appear religious outwardly, yet inwardly they are dry and distant from God.
Living like Jesus is coming means maintaining a fresh relationship with Him. You cannot borrow someone else’s oil. Your pastor’s walk with God cannot sustain you. Your family’s faith cannot replace your own devotion. Every believer must personally seek the Lord.
Preparation happens daily. Prayer fills the lamp. Worship keeps the fire burning. Obedience protects spiritual sensitivity. Time in God’s Word strengthens the soul. If we neglect these things, we risk becoming spiritually careless.
One day the cry will sound that the Bridegroom is coming. When that day arrives, there will be no time left to prepare. The wise prepare now.

Is your relationship with God fresh and growing, or dry and neglected?
What daily habits help keep your spiritual lamp burning?
Prayer
Father, fill my life with fresh oil from Your Spirit. Help me stay close to You and not depend on outward appearances. Create in me a hunger for prayer, worship, and Your Word. May my heart be prepared and ready when Jesus returns. Amen.
