Choosing Godly Friends
Scripture:
"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." — Proverbs 13:20
Few decisions will shape a school year more than the relationships we build.
God created us for fellowship, but He also reminds us that the people we spend the most time with influence our character, attitudes, decisions, and spiritual walk. Friendships can strengthen our faith—or slowly weaken it.
Students, choose friends who encourage honesty, kindness, purity, respect, and a growing relationship with Christ. Don't measure friendships by popularity or social status. Instead, look for people whose lives reflect godly character. Better yet, strive to be the kind of friend who points others to Jesus through your words and actions.
Parents, continue praying faithfully for your children's friendships. Talk with them about the importance of choosing friends who build them up rather than pull them away from God's truth. Your own relationships provide a powerful example of what healthy, Christ-centered friendships look like.
Teachers and administrators, the relationships you cultivate with fellow educators and staff members matter as well. Encourage one another, speak with grace, demonstrate integrity, and model Christlike character in your classrooms, offices, and hallways. Students are watching far more than our lessons—they are watching our lives. Your influence extends beyond academics and can leave an eternal impact.
Whether you are a student, parent, teacher, or administrator, remember that God calls each of us to surround ourselves with people who inspire us to love Him more. And just as importantly, He calls us to become that kind of influence in the lives of others.
Don't simply look for good friends. Be a godly friend.
Reflection Question:
Are the relationships in your life drawing you closer to Christ, and are you helping others grow closer to Him as well?
